What does this course involve?

This course will provide you with skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty, recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies and provide CPR in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies,

The cluster includes the following Units of Competency:

  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
  • HLTAID011- Provide First Aid

Online & Classroom ONLY (Cluster skill set)

The course describes the skills, knowledge and techniques required to:

  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines
  • Recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies
  • Provide a first aid response to a casualty in a range of situations

The course applies to all workers who may be required to provide CPR, perform a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

What will I need to do and how long will it take to complete?

The course is completed via a series of online training modules (taking approximately 4 – 10 hours to complete) with further attendance at a 1 day in-class practical application, and practical assessment component, facilitated by a senior trainer.

Who is this program best suited for?

This program is best suited to individuals who wish to complete an online component in their own time, followed by attendance at the RTO venue for a 1-day face-to-face review, practical application of skills with a practical assessment component.

Are there any course pre-requisites, entry requirements or expectations I need to know about?

To complete the course, you will be required to:

  1. Provide a Student Identifier Number (You provide on enrolment or allow us the RTO to establish one for you- under usi.gov.au).
  2. Display a sufficient level of language and literacy needed to complete the course, as a variety of paperwork, including theory assessments, which must be completed as part of the training program.
  3. Have access to a laptop/PC
  4. Have internet access
  5. Hold the necessary health and fitness to carry out the assessment requirements, which are to:
      • Complete continuous 2 minutes of CPR on an adult manikin kneeling on the floor, and
      • 2 minutes of continuous CPR on an infant manikin. (Some learners may find the physical aspects of this training strenuous and will be asked to discuss any injuries or physical limitations with the RTO staff before enrolment.)
  1. Wear comfortable and loose-fitting attire during the course, including enclosed flat shoes, slacks and a loose-fitting shirt/t-shirt for both males and females.
