This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to follow organisational infection prevention and control procedures, including implementing standard and transmission-based precautions, and responding to infection risks.

Learn the skills and knowledge required to follow organisational infection prevention and control procedures. This nationally accredited training includes implementing standard and transmission-based precautions; responding to standard and transmission-based events and responding to infection risks.

This course is essential in developing your workplace health and safety capacity. It has been contextualised to meet the immediate need for workers in a variety of roles to upskill in infection control.

This unit applies to individuals working in health and direct client care contexts.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

Who is this program best suited for?

This course is best suited to learners wishing to complete the program in a classroom based face-to-face program with a trainer over a full-time 3-day period.

Upon successful completion, students will receive a statement of attainment in HLTINFCOV001: Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures. Based on your industry area, you may request to have your Statement of Attainment issued as one of the following skill Sets:

  • Infection Control Skill Set (Transport and Logistics)
  • Infection Control Skill Set (Retail)
  • Infection Control Skill Set (Food Handling)

To complete the course, you will be required to:

  1. Provide a Student Identifier Number (You provide on enrolment or allow us the RTO to establish one for you- under usi.gov.au).
  2. Display sufficient level of language and literacy needed to complete the course as a variety of paperwork, including theory assessments, which must be completed as part of the training program.

How does the course work?

The training and assessment process is broken down into 3 phases.

  • The 1st phase involves the learner following a PPT presentation and working through a series of workbook activities and tasks; demonstrations & practical activities. (See session plan)
  • The 2nd phase involves the learner completing practical assessment tasks/activities.
  • The 3rd phase involves the learner completing a series of individual/group based scenarios and case studies

 

Assessment of competence will be conducted as follows:

Assessment for each unit consists of 3 stages:

  1. Theory assessment – Completion of a theory assessment
  2. Practical assessment – Completion of a series of practical activities/tasks
  3. Scenario assessment – Completion of a number of group/individual-based Case studies/scenario activities

On successful completion of all the assessments, you will receive a Statement of Attainment from the RTO.
