HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation – (Blended) Online & Face to Face

This mode would suit an experienced learner with minimum experience in this area.

This course will provide learners with skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty, recognise and respond to life threatening emergencies and provide CPR in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

The course describes the skills, knowledge and techniques required to:

1. Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines
2. Recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies.
3. Provide a first aid response to a casualty in a range of situations.

The course applies to all workers who may be required to provide CPR, perform a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

2 hours of online course work, some pre-course home study, reading tasks, learning and 2 hours including face-to-face.

What will I need to do and how long will it take to complete?

The course is completed via a series of online training modules (taking approximately 4 – 10 hours to complete) with further attendance at a 1 day (6 hours) in-class practical application, and practical assessment component, facilitated by a senior trainer.

Who is this program best suited for?

This program is best suited to individuals who wish to complete an online component in their own time, followed by attendance at the RTO venue for a 1-day face-to-face review, practical application of skills with a practical assessment component.

What will I learn in this course?

• 1. Respond to an emergency situation.
• 2. Apply appropriate first aid procedures
• 3. Communicate details of the incident

To complete the course, you will be required to:

1. Provide a Student Identifier Number (You provide on enrolment or allow us the RTO to establish one for you- under usi.gov.au).
2. Display sufficient level of language and literacy needed to complete the course as a variety of paperwork, including theory assessments which must be completed as part of the training program.
3. Have access to a laptop/PC.
4. Have internet access.
5. Hold the necessary health and fitness to carry out the assessment requirements which are to; complete continuous 2 minutes of CPR on an adult manikin kneeling on the floor and 2 minutes of continuous CPR on an infant manikin. (Some learners may find the physical aspects of this training strenuous and will be asked to discuss any injuries or physical limitations, with the RTO staff prior to enrolment).
6. Wear comfortable and loose-fitting attire, during the course, including; enclosed flat shoes, slacks and loose-fitting shirt/t-shirt for both males and females.

How does the course work?

The training and assessment process is broken down into 3 phases.

The 1^st phase involves the learner following a PPT presentation and working through a series of workbook activities online.

The 2^nd phase involves the learner completing practical assessment tasks/activities. With a Certificate of Completion

The 3^rd phase involves the learner completing a series of individual/group-based scenarios and simulated activities. (SIMEX)

What do I need to do before I attend the 2 hour classroom component?

On enrolment you will be provided with an information pack which will provide you with details of the course and an online learning website/portal account where you are able to create an account and enrol into HLTAID009 -Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. You will then be able to progress through the modules in your own time. (Approximate 2 hrs to complete).

You will move through and complete each online training module. Once all modules have been completed, you will be provided with a certificate of completion (COC), available for download.

You can only progress to the in-classroom practical phase of the course by providing a hard copy of the COC, or a digital image of the certificate to the course trainer on arrival at the classroom phase of the course. This is a mandatory requirement, and learners will not be allowed to progress unless they have sighted the COC.

Assessment of competence will be conducted as follows:

1. Theory assessment – Completion of a theory assessment – ONLINE
2. Practical assessment – Completion of a series of practical activities/tasks
3. Completion of an incident report form
4. Completion of a review of an incident
5. Scenario assessment – Participate in a number of group/individual-based role-play simulated activities (SIMEX)

On successful completion of all the assessments, you will receive a Statement of Attainment from the RTO.
